John “Jay” E. DeVan III is a Principal in the Tax Services Group at E. Cohen. He works primarily with closely held businesses and their owners and has nearly 50 years of experience working with clients in the real estate and professional services industries.

Jay has also worked closely with planning and tax compliance for high-net-worth clients, complex individual, partnership, S-corporation, and trust returns. His experience also includes leading audits of commercial banks and federal credit unions. 

He was previously a partner with DeVan & Lowery, P.A. CPAs. 

Jay is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants (MACPA). 

He graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and holds a Master of Business Administration in Finance and Accounting from the University of Maryland. 

Jay also served as a Director and Treasurer of the non-profit organization Court Appointed Special Advocates of Montgomery County (now known as Voices for Children, Montgomery) for 10 years.
